Abstract

This study conducts a systematic literature review to explore how spatial layout influences guest satisfaction in luxury hotel settings, with contextual insights for the Nigerian hospitality industry. Focusing on spatial features such as circulation efficiency, room ergonomics, zoning, and the integration of smart and biophilic design, the review synthesizes findings from 15 peer-reviewed studies published between 2013 and 2024. The selected literature was obtained through structured searches in databases such as Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, and JSTOR, using a defined set of inclusion criteria. Thematic content analysis was used to compare both Nigerian and international contexts. The findings reveal that spatial planning critically shapes guest comfort, ease of navigation, and emotional response. However, challenges persist in the Nigerian context, including inadequate zoning, limited smart technology integration, and poor accessibility features. The paper acknowledges the absence of primary data and emphasizes the need for context-specific empirical research in Nigerian luxury hotels. Recommendations are derived solely from reviewed literature and aim to guide architects, developers, and hospitality managers toward more user-centred spatial strategies.
