Abstract

Micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) play a key role in economic resilience and are often misconceptualized in policy frameworks as merely having basic telecommunications access. The study is aimed at examining the influence of Digital Business Model Innovation (DBMI) on enterprise-linked household welfare in Plateau State Nigeria. An Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression model is used to identify the welfare premiums of different technological classes by taking advantage of the cross-sectional microdata for 600 MSME households. The empirical results suggest that the simple technological level (as indicated by basic feature phones) has no statistically significant effect on household consumption. By contrast, companies with sophisticated computational equipment enjoy an associated welfare premium of 47.0 per cent, which is statistically significant. Additionally, the economic potential of the urban sector is 25.4 percent higher because of the agglomeration effects, but the added value associated with advanced digital capabilities is significantly greater than this geographical one. The research ends by highlighting that the advanced digital assets are key dynamic resources positively associated with the reconfiguration of structural value, and that a phased policy shift is required towards targeted pilot subsidies for advanced hardware in order to achieve sustainable poverty alleviation.
