Abstract
The study examines the impact of insecurity and socioeconomic factors on out-of-school children in Sokoto state, Nigeria, and its counselling implications. This study employed a survey research method. The population of the study were 1,520 subjects consisting of out of school children, teachers, and parents from the 23 local government of Sokoto state. A sample of 240 was selected using multi stage sampling technique. Three self-designed instruments were used for this study; the Questionnaire for Drop-out of School Children (QDSC), Questionnaire for Parents of Drop-out Children (QPDC), and the Questionnaire for Teachers of Drop-out Children (QTDC. The instruments were validated using Cronbach's alpha. The reported reliability indices for the three instruments are; QDSC 7.89, QPDC 8.01, and QTDC 8.07. Two research hypotheses were formulated and Pearson Product Moment Correlation was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. Some of the findings reveals that a significant relationship exists between insecurity and pupils that were out- of-schools in Sokoto State. The paper recommended among others that, government should enhance safety measures in schools that were affected by insecurity and by extension to all schools in the state.
